| When does the league race? On the first and third Tuesday of each month, starting at 6:45pm, usually finishing about 9:30pm. Where does the league race? We race at Allsports Grand Prix. Their address is: 45915 Maries Rd. Dulles, VA 20166 571-434-9566 How do I get there? Directions can be found at the ASGP website: www.allsportsgp.com/directions.htm How much does it cost? The cost is $72 per night and no pre-registration is required at this point to race in the league. If the league runs out of space, it becomes first-come first-served but this has yet to happen. We can seat up to 30 people per night for most formats. Okay, I'm in. What do I need to bring to the track? Requirements are quite simple. Allsports provides both the kart and the apparel. They have:
You need old shoes that you really don’t like (think grease, gasoline, and exhaust smell here) and a T shirt (drive hard enough and you can even sweat in the winter). If you have your own race-wear you are welcome to use it . Many drivers bring their own racing suits/ helmets/ gloves/ and shoes. Please note that your helmet must be designed for motorsport use. What about heavier drivers? New for 2008, is the optional Clydesdale category. Drivers over 220 pounds can run in SuperKarts with 50% more power (provided their skills are to the point Allsports will allow this). The league director may also determine that regular karts with significant power advantages may also be used. The Clydesdale group competes with the main group. Who will I be racing against? Usually the people whose fastest laps look the most like yours did your last time out. There are exceptions to this rule; there are only two times we combine beginners with experienced drivers and that includes Heat and Team racing. Combining slower and faster people on a narrow track requires everyone to pay attention to the normal passing process used for Team Racing and the sometimes dramatic passing that takes place during Heat Races. If you are very experienced and fast, we probably have someone for you to race with. If you are just starting out, we also have people to race with. On any given night, we range from guys that have been doing this for years to people just learning the track spread over 2-3 groups running in different heats. Starting in ’08 we have had the resurgence of the fairer gender to our ranks – we are no longer an all boys club. Do I need to race the entire season? No! You are welcome to drive when you're able. Please be aware that we have a maximum of 30 drivers per night that we can put on the track. We must therefore operate on a first come, first served basis. If the situation should arise that we have more than 30 drivers, preference will be given to those who are competing regularly in the points championship. |
